McVey Shots

This is the old house that stood on the top of Jack Hill in Snow Camp, North Carolina.  My grandmother, Asenath McVey is inside, looking out the screen door.  Thanks to my mom, who labeled everything, we know who is who.  I use to think that was strange that she wrote on everything; however, the older I get the more I realize that it had a purpose and what a wonderful way to help younger generations out.  Most people aren't interested in their heritage until the people who might remember who is who, are either too old to remember or in no position to see or recall any longer.   If you write the names on pictures - your relatives will know which of the cute little people you were.

I wish I had listened more carefully. What is do know is that my grandmother, Asenath, married Albert McVey.  She was Albert's second wife; his first having died and leaving Ralph, Clarence, Alene and Elizabeth as yount children.   Albert and Asenath had three children, Wendell, Alta and George (who we always called Kitty).     Albert died when my daddy was about five years old, so my grandmother was left alone to raise all  these children.

She is the only grandparent who lived during my lifetime.  She was a good woman who had a strong faith in God.  I never heard her say anything bad about anyone; and I have often commented to others that my daddy was the same.  (The genetic link must have crumbled with me....I try; but I alway seem to say what comes to mind).

This cute little fellow is my dad, Wendell Holmes McVey (once grown he changed his middle name to Howard - go figure that one????).

Wendell McVey

This is the grown up version of Clarence and Wendell in front of the little house that my parents (Wendell & Ava) bought and where Kay and I were raised.
